Abstract
The influence of positive end expiratory pressure (PEEP) on arterial oxygenation during intermittent positive pressure ventilation is described in obese patients undergoing intestinal bypass surgery. PEEP had no effect on arterial O2 tension of obese subjects when superimposed on high tidal volumes. Mechanisms of this phenomena are presented. Keywords
