A Residential Treatment Program for Male Sex Offenders

Abstract
The treatment program provided for incarcerated rapists, child molesters and incest offenders committed to Florida State Hospital is described. Multimodal therapy appears most effective-ranging from insight-oriented and behaviour therapies to classes on small engine repair. Treatment modalities are essen tially aimed at (1) establishing preconditions for effective treat ment ; (2) reducing substance abuse; (3) encouraging conformity to appropriate social norms; (4) reducing arousal to inappro priate themes; (5) increasing arousal to appropriate sociosexual themes; (6) enhancing personal adjustment; and (7) increasing social skills.
