Abstract
The absorption spectrum of the 40°0-00°0 band of nitrous oxide has been recorded in the pressure range 10–15 atm. Analysis of our data shows that the band absorption is sub-lorentzian at every pressure studied and that no line interaction can be detected in the P and R branches of the band. Comparison of the experimental and theoretical correlation functions, leads to the introduction, into the collisional terms of an empirical factor Ω(t) which accounts for both the observed profile of the band and the shape of the individual lines. Keywords
