En Thumperprofil Genom Landsortsdjupet

Abstract
During a geological survey in the Baltic carried out by the Department of Geology, Stockholm University, the opportunity arose of running a continuously recorded seismic profile across the Landsort Trench. The profile, believed to be first of its kind over this area, shows mainly the surfaces of the sedimentary deposits and of the underlying bedrock. The greatest thickness of sediments occurs in the central part of the trench and amounts to 110 meters. The unequal distribution of sediments on both sides of the trench is probably due to the influence of surface currents. In the east and central parts of the trench the rate of sedimentation is abnormally high and possibly the result of submarine slides from the eastern slopes of the trench.
