Simplified N -Dimensional Interaction Surfaces

Abstract
A procedure for constructing approximate lower bound interaction surfaces for reinforced concrete beams and plates is developed. The procedure makes use of readily available two-dimensional interaction curves and a convexity argument to construct the higher dimensional lower bound interaction surface. Implementation of the procedure for checking for failure is simplified since construction of the entire interaction surface is not required. The method is illustrated graphically using a three-dimensional example. It is shown that the procedure can be extended to higher dimensions although in some cases certain difficulties arise.
