Abstract
Infrared emission from the reaction was observed in a flow system under a variety of conditions. Possible mechanisms for the relaxation of HF* are discussed, and attempts are made to estimate the extent of relaxation. These estimates are used to calculate the vibrational energy distribution of the initially formed HF*. The fraction of the available energy partitioned to the HF product is ≥ 32%. Reaction (1) is compared with its chlorinated analogue on the basis of mechanism and energy partitioning.
