Abstract
Using sequential hourly weather data available on punched cards from the United States Weather Bureau, digital weather models of the future climate in the vicinity of a proposed transmission line can be constructed. These models permit statistical forecasts of line performance. Application of the technique to line insulation strength is demonstrated. Performance can be predicted on an over-all basis, or can be studied at specific times of the day, or during fog periods or thunderstorms. Optimizing routines are presented that optimize or permit balancing of flashover characteristics, and forecast performance as a function of line investment. Keywords
