Abstract
The influence of body build has long been of concern in the design and operation of motor cars. In the performance of the human body the possible significance of peculiarities in the physique of the individual — in unusual interrelations of body size and proportion—have only lately awakened serious interest. Today the claims of constitutional differences receive a respectful hearing. A recent writer1has remarked that the almost uncanny agreements found in applying the surface area formulas to basal metabolism of individuals of widely different body form, widely different proportions of body fat, and so on, have served to inhibit rather than stimulate interest in the effects of minor differences.
