Abstract
Despite more than a decade of public discussion of “ecological crises” and “environmental problems,” ecological thinking has had only marginal influence. The tendency to trivialize ecology is not limited to the media, industry and politics, but extends to the uncritical treatment of ecological concepts by virtually all prevailing currents in social theory, even the allegedly most radical varieties.
