Abstract
An injector of intense beams of carbon ions is described. The device uses an array of carbon plasma guns to inject ions directly into a magnetically insulated acceleration gap. Ion currents exceed 3 kA with beam energies between 100 and 300 keV (for C+) and 200 and 600 keV (for C+ +) over a 700-ns pulselength. Keywords
