Abstract
The possibility of using a hydrodynamic model of plasma wave generation in solids is investigated. The simplicity of the approach is in sharp contrast to earlier theoretical investigations based on an elaborate kinetic theory. The basic equations presented here apply to metals or semiconductors and an extension which includes the means of studying the influence of a magnetic field is provided. A thorough discussion of the boundary conditions at a dielectric–conductor/semiconductor interface is given and some numerical comparisons with published experimental data are included. Keywords
