Abstract
Growth curves of a strain of Escherichia coli and of Salmonella schottmuelleri were studied in a synthetic medium. In mixed cultures the total growth expressed as cell hours was 53% of the growth in the 2 controls. S. schottmuelleri in the mixed cultures produced only 36% of the cell hours; in the pure cultures it produced 54% of the hrs. The difference, 18%, represents the inhibition of S. schottmuelleri by E coli during the growth cycle as a whole. This publication has 11 references indexed in Scilit:
