Abstract
Studies of the effectiveness of management control have usually been based on observations of inter-personal or inter-departmental relationships within an organisation. This paper suggests that a new approach would be to observe what happens to plans, decisions and tasks, from inception to completion. It discusses the application of scientific methods for analysing management control, with particular emphasis on research techniques for measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of control procedures. Keywords
