DEEP INJECTION OF NOVOCAINE FOR THE RELIEF OF PLEURAL PAIN

Abstract

31 cases of pneumococcus pneumonia and 1 of pulmonary infarction, each with severe pleural pain, were injected with 5-10 cc. of 2% novocaine directly into the painful area of the pleura. The pain was immediately relieved in all cases and permanently in the large majority. The secondary beneficial effects upon respiration, cough, rest, and prognosis are described.
