Abstract
Two Escherichia coli strains were established as antigenic test strains for two new O groups, O172 and O173. The O172 strain (EHEC) which produces »Shiga‐like« toxin II (verocytotoxin 2) was isolated from a case of haemorrhagic colitis while the enteroinvasive O173 strain (EIEC) originated from a child with diarrhoea.Keywords
