Abstract
Techniques for shaving size, weight, and cost without sacrificing performance are examined. These include: using off-the-shelf parts; finding and overcoming the principle bottleneck; minimizing cost; changing technology; and zero-mass design, a technique that starts with a clean slate and adds parts until one has a system that works. The compact GR-C7 VideoMovie from JVC is presented as a case study. Keywords
