Comparative Anatomy and Histology of the Alimentary Canal of Adult Apinae

Abstract
SUMMARY The alimentary canals of workers of 15 species of social bees, including Apis, Bombus and four genera of meliponids, were compared. The anatomical differences were greater than the histological ones, and were most noticeable in the most specialized parts of the alimentary canal. In some respects the meliponids formed a group distinct from Bombus and Apis, which had certain features in common.
