Abstract
A survey is given covering the historical development of chemical radioprotection. A number of substances are discussed which have radio-protective activity; these are: (1) sulfhydryl group- and sulfur containing substances; (2) biogenic amines, alcaloids and metabolically active moieties of vitamins. The modes of action and the interactions of these compounds with the basic processes occurring in the organism after irradiation are discussed. Keywords
