BLOOD CALCIUM AS AFFECTED BY INSULIN

Abstract
Insulin relieved the anorexia of thyro-parathyroidectomized dogs. It raised serum Ca in 8 normal and in 2 recovered thyro-parathyroidectomized dogs from the normal average of 9.1 mgm. to an average of 13.1 mgm. in 1 hr. This increase in serum Ca persisted for 21/2 hrs. and in 2 animals the Ca remained above normal at the end of 3 1/2 hrs. The serum Ca showed irregular rises and the same level was not obtained in all the animals. In the 1 animal given no insulin, there were only slight variations in serum Ca during the 3 1/2 hr. period.
