Abstract
Jones et al. (Aug. 17 issue)1 describe transplantation of a hand and provide one year of follow-up data on the recipient. Although one can applaud the technical accomplishment, their use of the term “successful” must be challenged. The authors have demonstrated the technical ability to transplant composite tissue, but until there is the recovery of sensation in the hand and demonstration of useful function, including bimanual use, we would not consider this result a success. Keywords
