Underwater echo-ranging with electronic sector scanning: sea trials on R.R.S.Discovery II

Abstract
Sea trials of an electronic sector-scanning asdic equipment were conducted during October 1958 in R.R.S. Discovery II with the particular purpose of determining the general performance of the equipment and its ability to detect and give information relating to fish shoals. A description is given of the design of the equipment and of the results obtained. It is shown that very considerable success was achieved.
