Abstract
The essential difference between classical multiple sclerosis and both Devic's neuromyelitis optica and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis are outlined. Advances in identifying the multiple gene mutations responsible for adrenoleukodystrophy and possible mechanisms for the genotypic/phenotypic variability are reviewed.Keywords
