Abstract
To the Editor: Pentamidine isethionate is used in the treatment of P. carinii pneumonia, a common infection in patients with AIDS. Pentamidine has been supplied as an investigational drug to physicians in the United States by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Drug Service. On the basis of studies in mice and human beings1 , 2 and reports to the CDC of severe hypotension after rapid (5 to 10 minutes) intravenous injections, the CDC has recommended giving pentamidine intramuscularly unless otherwise contraindicated.Because of reports to the CDC on increasing numbers of patients receiving pentamidine intravenously, we studied the relation between the . . .
