RHINOVIRUSES are an established cause of the common-cold syndrome.1 , 2 Although clinical and experimental observations suggest that these viruses may infect the tracheobronchial tree, their importance as a cause of disease in the lower respiratory tract remains to be established.Clinical HistoryA 61-year-old woman with myelomatosis of 7 years' duration was hospitalized for elective splenectomy.
