Abstract
The observational data on the interstellar polarization of starlight is shown to be generally favourable to a helically twisted model of the spiral arm magnetic field. The data is, in some respects, seriously opposed to the normal cylindrical model. There is also evidence that a halo field dips through the galactic plane in interarm regions. Keywords
