Abstract
Perfusion of sensitized rabbit lungs with a saline solution containing the sensitizing antigen is followed by an important reduction in the rate of output of the perfusing liquid. Reduction does not take place if the experiment is performed with normal animals. As the antigen-concentration in contact with sensitized rabbit lungs is progressively increased the output rate returns to normal. This is an anaphylactic reaction. The reaction is governed by tissue factors; any hemic modifications being, a priori, excluded in view of the given experimental conditions. The anaphylactic decline in pulmonary output does not depend on the liberation of histamine or 5-hydroxytryptamine in situ. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
