Measurement of the Anisotropies of the Viscosity and Superfluid Density for 3He–A

Abstract
Measurements have been made of the frequency and damping of a torsional oscillator containing a disc of 3He–A 105µm thick as the orbital texture is manipulated by applying magnetic fields of varying strength and direction relative to the disc. By comparing these results with theory we deduce the two principal values of the superfluid density tensor and three of the five viscosity coefficients with good accuracy, and obtain rough estimates of the other two viscosity coefficients.
