Abstract
Measurements of [η′ ∞], the dynamic viscosity of a dilute polymer solution at a high frequency of alternating shear stress, are reported for four polymers. The results are not compatible with a purely dissipative mechanism nor with models based on the internal viscosity of the polymer chain. It is suggested that [η′ ∞] has a relaxational origin in the local motions of a polymer chain. Keywords
