Abstract
We present the l- and n-mixing regions of the barium spectrum obtained in σ polarization in a magnetic field of 2.89 T using one-step atomic-beam uv laser spectroscopy. Unexpected differences between the and spectra as well as extra structure are observed. An explanation in terms of the many-electron nature of the barium atom is proposed.
