Abstract
The effects of such factors as rate of decompression, CO2, inanition, carrot diet, dehydration, air temp. on hypoxic survival are shown. Mice tolerate hypoxia best if slowly decompressed (avg. of 674 feet/sec.) CO2 does not increase hypoxic tolerance in mice. Inanition decreases tolerance in proportion to the duration of starvation. Exclusive carrot diet for 10 days significantly increases tolerance which appears to be related to water loss from the tissues. Dehydration up to 20% of body wt. significantly increases hypoxic resistance, beyond 20% diminishes resistance. Reduction of temp. of surrounding air increases survival directly in proportion as the air temp. is lowered. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
