Abstract
An examination of recent attempts by Diane Elson and others, to come to grips with the ontological implications of Marx's labor theory of value. The contention is supported that an adequate understanding of Marx's ontology of social relations helps differentiate the aims of Marxist, from other value theories is supported. It is argued, however, that this differentiation must rest on a holistic methodology, while also being linked to historical materialism.
