Circular magnetization of nickel and ferrite twisted tubular polycrystalline samples in axial magnetic fields

Abstract
In this work, the circular component of magnetization in nickel and ferrite twisted tubular polycrystalline specimens has been measured. These data have been related to the magnetoelastic properties of the samples by means of an equation deduced from energetic considerations. Excellent agreement was found between measured and calculated values of circular magnetization whenever Joule magnetostriction data were obtainable. These results pointed out that the circular component of magnetization and its dependence on applied stress are mainly determined by magnetostrictive properties of polycrystalline samples. The applicability of this equation to magnetostriction measurements has been briefly considered.
