Continuing Medical Education

Abstract
A number of activities that may eventually change the field of continuing medical education (CME) occurred this past year. This report will summarize many of these initiatives, as well as update ongoing CME activities occurring between May 1, 1988, and May 1, 1989. COOPERATION IN CME Following the landmark First National Congress on Continuing Medical Education held in Los Angeles, Calif, in April 1988, several of the sponsoring organizations indicated a desire to meet informally on an ongoing basis to explore areas for CME cooperation and collaboration. Thus, on October 8, 1988, the American Medical Association (AMA) hosted a meeting in Chicago, Ill, entitled "Coordination in Continuing Medical Education." The invitees were representatives from the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education (ACME), Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), Association of American Medical Colleges, Association for Hospital Medical Education, AMA, Council on Medical Specialty Societies, Society for Medical College Directors of Continuing
