Abstract
A method is developed for determining the maximum response of a system under various constraints of the input. The solution is based on appropriate extensions of the reasoning leading to the matched filter principle. Special cases include a number of problems treated elsewhere. However, the available solutions involve integral equations and the calculus of variations. In the following approach the results are obtained in simple algebraic terms. Keywords
