Drift Residues of Air-Applied Carbaryl in an Orchard Environment1

Abstract
Airborne and deposition levels of carbaryl were measured after air application of the pesticide to an apple orchard. Air sampling techniques showed detectable carbaryl as far as 3.5 km away in a moderate wind (8 to 12 km/h). On a calm day with a temperature inversion, drift was less at this distance. However, general climatic conditions could not explain all drift and fallout data. Topography and micro climate also play an important role in the dispersal of the insecticide.
