Experimental deformation of quartz single crystals at 27 to 30 kilobars confining pressure and 24 degrees C

Abstract
The experimental details of compression deformation of quartz crystals are given. Petrographic observations, including photomicrographs of the structures, and new crystalline phases formed are presented and discussed. In all the experiments the q quartz failed by sudden rupture, as is the case under lower confining pressures. Deformation occurred by shear or faulting along rational crystallographic planes.--H.C.W.S
