Abstract
The effect of norethynodrel on the mammary gland of the intact, ovariectomized or hypophysectomized rat was investigated. Subcutaneous administration of as little as 0.09 mg/100 g body weight/day for 10 days caused significant lobulo-alveolar development in the intact animal. A higher dose (1.5 mg/100 g body weight/day) for 5 days also significantly stimulated the mammary gland of the intact animal. While the mammary gland of the ovariectomized rat responded to norethynodrel, hypophysectomized animals were completely refractory. The data are discussed in terms of a possible mechanism for norethynodrel action. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
