Abstract
To the Editor: Recently, a 28-year-old Negro woman was admitted to the medical service of the Kings County Hospital Center because of pain in several joints, including the elbows, knees and left ankle. These pains were accompanied by fevers, chills and malaise. Eight days after the onset of the joint pain she entered the hospital with a temperature of 102°F and tenderness on passive movement of the left ankle and left third metacarpophalangeal joint. At that time, no joint swelling or effusion was present.Our initial impression was rheumatoid arthritis, and acetylsalicylic acid, 0.6 gm every four hours, was started. . . .
