Abstract
It is shown that the virial theorem can be used to derive a force constant expression that sheds new light on the process of molecular binding. In connection with the latter the quantum‐mechanical virial theorem is derived in such a way as to be useful in discussing molecular applications in which the Born‐Oppenheimer approximation is applied. Keywords
