Abstract
Disaccharidase activity (lactase, maltase, invertase and cellobiase) was examined quantitatively in 24 patients after stomach resection. In 10 patients a deficit of the splitting of lactase and cellobiase was found. Invertase activity can be compared in patients with gastrectomy; splitting lactose statistically was significantly lower. A decrease of activity was not caused by age or sex. Clinical manifestations of milk intolerance did not always correspond with the established values of the lactase deficit. Intolerance to milk, milk products or glucides was not found in any patient before the operation. The pathogenesis of these acquired disaccharidase intestinal enzymo-pathies was discussed. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
