Abstract
P. shigelloides was isolated from the feces of 2 patients. In 1 case the patient had cholera-like symptoms. In the other case the nonspecific symptoms led to an appendectomy. In this case the association of the clinical symptoms with the bacteriological results is doubtful. P. shigelloides belongs to the family Vibrionaceae. Some P. shigelloides strains share a common O antigen with Shigella sonnei. Literature about infectious gastroenteritis in humans due to P. shigelloides is spare. After 1 yr of stool-research with a small number of specimens, P. shigelloides was found twice.
