Abstract
Procaine penicillin G (with probenecid) and ceftizoxime (1 g and 0.5 g) were compared in a randomized trial in 219 adults with uncomplicated gonorrhoea. Of these, 86.7% of the males and 66.7% of the females were evaluable. There were no clinical failures among the males with any of the regimens. Among the females, one patient on 1 g of ceftizoxime was a clinical failure, as were one patient on 0.5 g of ceftizoxime and two patients on aqueous procaine penicillin G. Fewer adverse effects were seen with ceftizoxime than with aqueous penicillin G.Keywords
