Abstract
When an indenter is pressed into a surface as in a hardness test, the material beneath the indenter undergoes plastic flow. When the load is removed from the indenter, a second plastic flow occurs in the opposite direction. This paper presents experimental evidence for this reverse plastic flow and mentions a number of practical implications of this behavior. Keywords
