Study of gas production capacity by three sources of inocula

Abstract
SUMMARY: The capacity for gas production by three sources of inocula was evaluated at the University of the Azores between 1993 and 1994. The sources were: liquor from the rumen of sheep and slaughtered cattle and a suspension of sheep faeces. The highest gas production was observed in the liquor obtained from sheep rumen. Lower production(p ≤ 0·05) was observed in the rumen liquor obtained from slaughtered cattle, and the lowest results (p ≤ 0·05) were obtained with the suspension of faeces from sheep.
