Comparison of Age-Adjusted Cancer Incidence Rates in Denmark and the United States2

Abstract
The authors adjusted the material of the Danish Cancer Registry for the years 1943 to 1952 for a United States standard population computed by the United State''s Census-Population of 1950. The Danish material is subdivided into two 5-year periods. Figures for each period are given separately for Copenhagen, provincial towns, rural areas and Copenhagen suburbs. Figures were computed giving incidence for all larger groups of cancers, and these figures are compared with figures from U. S. A. Studies on ten cities for whites and non-whites were done. The authors emphasize that comparisons should be carried out in collaboration between the institutes responsible for collection of the material in the places to be compared. For this reason they regard their own publication only as a starting point for more elaborate studies. The increase and decrease of cancers of various sites during periods examined are discussed.
