Abstract
Polycrystalline ice contains a three-dimensional network of water filled veins, whose size is a function of temperature among other parameters. In order to study heat transfer to and from these veins, a model of their arrangement around a crystal is necessary. The geometrical constraints of this arrangement are discussed and a model is proposed. This is compared to various other models, including that used by Frank (1968) for convection in the earth's mantle. Keywords
