Abstract
Enclosures open to the sediments and the atmosphere were used to elucidate the response of algae and bacteria to the nutrient enrichment from fish in the mesotrophic area of Lake Balaton. Active transformation between the forms of nitrogen was observed especially in the enclosure with fish. Both nitrogen and phosphorus values were influenced by fish. Changes in nutrient dynamics, composition and biomass of algae and bacterial production were measured. It has been shown that benthivorous fish with a biomass illustrative of the most eutrophic part of the lake were able to generate high bacterial production rate and a strong outburst of blue‐greens. Keywords
