Decay of the 8-minSm157

After the bombardment of enriched ${}_{}{}^{160}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Gd}$ with 14-MeV neutrons a new 8.0 ± 0.5-min nuclide has been observed which is assigned to the ($n,\alpha$) product ${}_{}{}^{157}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Sm}$. A total of 14 $\gamma$ rays has been found following the decay of ${}_{}{}^{157}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Sm}$ with the strongest peaks at 121.0, 196.4, 197.8, 394.2, and 844.0 keV. A decay scheme for ${}_{}{}^{157}{}_{}{}^{}\mathrm{Sm}$ is proposed.
