Abstract
A new family, the VITREOSCILLACEAE, is proposed for a group of microorganisms which are characterized by their colorless, gliding trichomes. The family has certain affinities with myxobacteria and still more with colorless myxophyceae, especially with the Beggiatoaceae. The type genus is Vitreoscilla. The type species is unnamed. The new spp. are: V. beggiatoides, V. catenula V. filiformis, V. moniliformis, V. paludosa, V stercoraria. Provisionally named species are: V. major, V. stricta, V. conica. Other genera in this family are: Microscilla with type species M. marina; Bactoscilla, with type species F. mucronata. Other species in the genus Microscilla are M.agilis and M. flagellum. Descriptions of the family, genera and species are given. Keywords
