Abstract
During the past five years at the Skin and Cancer Unit of the New York Post-Graduate Medical School and Hospital there have been 443 patients with a diagnosis of lupus erythematosus. As 153,475 patients were treated during this period, the general incidence of the disease was 0.28 per cent. CLASSIFICATION OF PATIENTS AND CLINICAL OBSERVATIONS Sex.— There were 184 men (41 per cent) and 259 women. Age.— There were no patients below the age of puberty.1A boy of 17 with disseminated chronic lesions had been treated eleven years previously for the same disease. The incidence rose regularly to reach a peak at about 40 years of age and then fell off again. It was rare in old age; only 20 patients were 60 or over.
